আমরা হয় তো অনেকেই জানি না IT এর মানে কী ? তথ্য প্রযুক্তি বলতে সাধারানত তথ্য রাখা এবং একে ব্যবহার করার প্রযুক্তি কেই বুঝানো হয়। একে Information Technology – IT নামে অভিহিত করা হয়। অক্সফোর্ড ইংলিশ ডিকশনারিতে তথ্য প্রযুক্তিকে সংজ্ঞায়িত করা হয়েছে এভাবে- ‘ The branch of technology concerned with the dissemination processing and storage of information, especially by means of computer.’
